Clinical Consultations to Promote Knowledge Translation into the Clinic
Value Proposition
I offer high quality clinical consultation and continuing education specifically designed for the needs of the facility. My focus is on facilitating the translation of evidence-based knowledge taught in a continuing education course to immediate implementation of new strategies directly in the clinic.
Problem
It takes 17-years for research to reach practice and only 14% of that research reaches the patient. Currently, neurologic rehabilitation is expanding to demonstrate the importance of utilizing more motor learning strategies in patient care. Attending a continuing education course assists in providing the knowledge but therapists need assist in translating the strategies directly with their patient population. As length of stays decrease, and reimbursement becomes increasingly focused on improving outcomes, it is critical to assist therapists in their setting to promote behavior change.
My Solution
I have put together an innovative design of combining clinical consultation and mentoring along with continuing education courses supported with the latest evidence. I provide facilities multiple options of topics to choose from related to patients with neurological deficits as well as the preferences for the amount of time for lecture and lab.
Following the specifically designed continuing education course I work directly with the therapists in the clinic for the next two days. Promoting change in practice requires real time problem solving in the actual setting with various patient presentations. This 1:1 opportunity is individualized to prioritize each therapists and sites needs.
I provide examples of how to utilize the actual ideas taught in the course with the patients they are currently treating to reinforce implementation. The focus is on problem solving and adjusting the environment to set up the clinic to provide optimal use of the time and equipment. I also assist them with approaches for documentation and improving creativity with interventions.
