Clinical Consultation to Promote Knowledge Translation into the Clinic

To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Zachary Beiswanger and I am a physical therapist and In-patient Rehabilitation Operations Manager at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN. I have been a part of Lutheran Hospital for nearly nine years while serving as the operations manager for the last four years. I am writing a letter in regards to a continuing education class recently provided to our hospital by J.J. Mowder-Tinney entitled “Maximizing Movement: Driving Movement through Challenge and Feedback.”

Recently, J.J. Mowder-Tinney provided our hospital with an excellent continuing education opportunity.  This 1-day course utilized a PowerPoint presentation mixed with hands-on lab sessions to educate our staff on the most current motor learning theories and challenging patients to the fullest extent.  The information provided in this course was very practical and able to be immediately implemented into practice with patients.  This course specifically challenged our therapists to think “outside the box” when implementing interventions with their patients; it also inherently increased the size of our therapist’s tool bags in relation to interventions that could be applied across multiple settings of physical therapy (acute care, IRF, OP therapy, etc.).

In addition to providing the 1-day course, J.J. also spent an additional day in the clinic with our therapists and patients.  This provided our staff with a unique opportunity to immediately integrate knowledge and skills gain in the course with their practice.  The extra time spent with our staff and patients will undoubtedly help minimize the lack of carryover from continuing education to practice.  Furthermore, it will help engrain the most current evidenced base research into the daily practice of our therapists.

Not only do I highly recommend the 1-day course provided by J.J. Mowder-Tinney, I also highly recommend the format of spending additional time with therapists and patients in the clinic immediately after the course.

Most Respectfully,

Zach Beiswanger, PT, DPT
