Course Description

This hands-on course equips both physical and occupational therapists with the handling strategies and clinical reasoning needed to address the unique challenges of individuals with complete spinal cord injuries. Participants will develop techniques to support postural alignment, shoulder stability, and efficient transfers, while also exploring adaptive strategies for long sitting, upper body mobility, and daily activities.

Through case-based learning and real-time clinical decision-making, therapists will apply motor learning principles to enhance safety, independence, and maximize therapeutic engagement for this population.

Included in this course:

• 1 hour of pre-recorded content introducing SCI-specific considerations.

• Post-course access to videos of treatment ideas developed during the course.

Continuing Education Credit:
This course is approved for continuing education credit for physical and occupational therapists in New York State.

Participants from other states will be provided with all necessary documentation—including the course agenda, learning objectives, instructor bios, and certificate of completion—to assist with self-submission for CEU approval through their individual state licensing boards.

New York CEU Approvals for PT and OT:

Nazareth University is a continuing education provider by NBCOT for PDUs for renewal of Occupational Therapy Certification. This course is approved for 7.5 PDUs (.75 CEUs) for Day 3.

Nazareth University is an Approved Provider of continuing education by the New York State Board for Physical Therapy. This course is approved for 9 contact hours (.9 CEUs) for Day 3.
